Jewellery Care

Knowing how to care for your treasured jewelry can make a world of difference in maintaining its beauty. Jewelry should not be exposed to chemicals that can damage and discolor precious metals and gemstones. Fine jewelry should be removed before diving into a chlorinated swimming pool, or before using household cleaners. Chemicals found in everyday substances like hairspray, lotions, perfumes, or other cosmetics can permanently damage the nacre of dazzling pearl and other gems and corrode the alloys of metals. Every once in a while, jewelry should be cleaned with warm water, mild soap (no detergents), and a soft toothbrush to keep it free from debris and to maintain the shine and sparkles.

One should not toss the jewelry into a drawer or on top of a dresser. Jewelry boxes, that feature individually padded slots for rings and posts for hanging necklaces/bracelets, are ideal to store the items. When traveling with jewelry, it is important to protect the pieces from scratches or other impact damage by padding the jewelry and keeping all the pieces individually, by simply putting them in separate plastic zip-locks.
