Color
The color grading system of the most gem-quality diamonds is based on the absence of color. A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water, and consequently, a higher value due to its rarity. The D-to-Z diamond colour-grading system, D being the best color, measures the degree of colorlessness by comparing a stone under controlled lighting and precise viewing conditions. The D-Z color scale can be divided into colorless, near-colorless, faint yellow, very light yellow and light yellow ranges.
- D-E-F grades are Colourless
- G-H-I-J grades are near colourless
- K-L-M grades are faint yellow
- N through R grades are very light yellow
- S through Z grades are light yellow
